In SFV Granny’s opinion, this hidden site is one of the most important places in CA history. Campo de Cahuenga’s importance to US history can’t be ignored either! Tucked under the shadow of the NBC skyscraper at the edge of the Universal Studios property is this relic from 1847. This is the birthplace of American CA! It was here that the Californios signed a treaty with U.S. Lt. Colonel John Fremont, ending the Mexican-American War. The entire Spanish holdings clear up to Colorado and the entire SW were ceded to the U.S.
The fountain commemorates the Californio woman who came up with the idea of a peaceful solution to the war and brokered the settlement with Fremont. Due to lack of volunteers, the park is only open on the 1st/3rd Sat. afternoons from 12-4 p.m. Don’t miss it!
