After the depression, horse racing grew in popularity among the public. Just an hour from the race tracks in Inglewood and Arcadia, the Valley drew many celebrities into horse breeding, or at least having a ranch. The San Fernando Valley became lined with thousands of miles of white fences in the bucolic ’40s and ’50s.

“The hillside communities in the Valley offer exclusive, executive housing with stunning views. The homes on the “valley” side of the Santa Monicas do not get the ocean or downtown views but they do get sweeping views of the San Gabriel Mountains and the lights of the valley floor at night are amazing (on clear nights). These areas are somewhat removed from the spotlight of Beverly Hills or the Hollywood Hills. So I think some entertainment industry folks like the valley because they feel somewhat removed from the buzz of LA, yet are only a short drive away to the studios (many of which are located in the valley).”
